DR. CHARLES LARKIN (PROJECT COORDINATOR)

Charles J. Larkin, Discp. Sch., B.A.
(Mod.) [TCD] obtained his Ph.D. in economics in 2008. He founded the Swan Group as an associate
researcher with the Department of Economics, Trinity College Dublin.
His research work relates to several topics,
including the history of economic thought, the history of ideas, and
the legal and institutional development of the International Monetary
Fund. Mr. Larkin has made presentations to many international
audiences, including the US Federal Reserve. He has also been
involved with the following books: The IMF and Nicaragua: Development
Where People Matter. Palgrave. Forthcoming. (with Colm Kearney and
Ruth Rios-Morales). and "Chapter 1. The History of Debt
Conditionality." in The Debt Problem: Historic, Theoretical and
Institutional Perspectives. Constantin Gurdgiev, Colm Kearney, Sharon
Jackson Eds. Palgrave. Forthcoming. Mr. Larkin was the Vice President
of the Trinity College Graduate Students’ Union from October
2004-July 2006. In that capacity Mr. Larkin was a member of the Board
of Trinity College and the Academic (University) Council. He has also
conducted extensive research in the area of tertiary education policy
and presented a paper on the economics of Irish university
restructuring to the 2007 Dublin Economic Workshop Kenmare

MS AILBHE KENNY
St. Patrick's College, Drumcondra View CV
Ailbhe Kenny has recently been appointed Lecturer in Music Education
at Mary Immaculate College, University of Limerick. She is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Cambridge and has just completed a fellowship supported by the Arts Council, St. Patrick’s College Drumcondra,
Wexford County Council and Sligo County Council. This research was
presented at a Music Network Conference, ‘Striking the Right Note’
in April, 2007, has been accepted for presentation at ‘The Paris
International Conference on Education, Economy and Society’ in July
2008 and will culminate in a published research report and national
conference in August 2008. As Part of this fellowship Ms. Kenny also
lectured music education at St Patrick’s College and led
professional development courses for primary teachers in conjunction
with the INTO and Drumcondra Education Centre. Ms. Kenny worked as a
primary teacher for almost five years in a mainstream, learning
support and specialist music teacher capacity. She spent one year on
secondment as Arts and Education officer to ‘The Ark - A Cultural
Centre For Children’ in Temple Bar, Dublin 2, an organisation
brought about as part of a government arts initiative. Ms. Kenny
organised and taught in ‘Literacy through the Arts’ summer camps
at Scoil Mhuire Gan Smál, Inchicore for four summers, which
was run in conjunction with the School Completion Programme. She is a
member of International Society for Music Education (ISME) and
attended the ISME world conference in Kuala Lumpur, July 2006. Ms.
Kenny holds a Bachelor of Education Degree and a Masters Degree in

MR DAITHÍ MACSÍTHIGH

Daithí MacSíthigh is a
Scholar and graduate of Trinity College Dublin. He holds a degree in
Law and is currently writing a PhD on the regulation of new media in
the School of Law. Mr. MacSíthigh is a tutor in constitutional
law, administrative law and human rights law, and teaches on the LLM
Media Regulation module. His research interests are in media law, law
and technology, administrative procedures, regulatory theory and
freedom of expression. A former officer of the Trinity College Dublin
Students’ Union and Education Officer of the Union of Students in
Ireland, he has been a member of the Higher Education Training and
Awards Council, the National Office for Equity of Access to Higher
Education, the Board of Trinity College and the European Students’
Union Bologna Process Committee. He acted as research

DR JACCO THIJSSEN Department of Economics, University of Dublin, Trinity College View CV
Jacco Thijssen obtained his “doctoraal”
(MA) cum laude in Econometrics & Operations Research, with a
specialisation in Mathematical Economics, from Tilburg University,
the Netherlands. He pursued a PhD in mathematical economics at the
Center of Economic Research at the same university, which he obtained
in May 2003. In September of that year he joined the Department of
Economics at Trinity College Dublin as a lecturer. In January 2006 he
was appointed as Lecturer in Mathematical Finance in the Department
of Mathematics at the University of York (UK). He re-joined the
Department of Economics at TCD in January 2008 on a permanent
appointment. His main research interest is in the mathematical
